What do u mean by a match winner...? Hitting 6s and 4s towards the end of the innings and scoring over 7 runs per over and chasing a target? Surely it is match winning. If a batsman does well in the first innings and set a huge target.. or Creating a strong platform in the second innings... isn't it a match winning effort...? Isn't he a match winner...? Yea!! to some extent...! Right...?! So Sachin is not a good match winner... right? Chasing the target is match winning... am i correct?! So Dravid and Ponting are match winners, right??... now, lets talk about ODIs. Please check these statistics... (as of feb 4 2009).

Leading run getter in Oneday Internationals
Hit maximum number of Centuries in Oneday Internationals
Sachin is the leading run getter in TWO world cups, 1996 and 2003
Out of his 46 tons in ODI, 17 were while chasing and and 29 were in 1st inn.
He is the only batsman in the history of Oneday Internations to hit a double century
He is the only batsman in the world to complete 10000 runs in the matches in which the team have won.
The most interesting fact is that Sachin has scored 46 hundreds, and out of these tons, 33 hundreds came as matchwinning hundreds.
14 came while batting second... 19 while batting first.
which is more than the total no of hundreds scored by the batsman in the second position in the century list.
1. Mini worldcup knockout match vs Australia - Wills int cup, third quarter final oct 28 - 1998 -Dhaka
He scored 141 from 128 balls in the first innings and took 4 wickets in Aus inns.
Match winning effort...?
Has anyone seen a matchwinning effort than this? 141 from 128 balls and 4 wickets! huh?
India lost the very next match against Windies and went out of the series... because sachin was dismissed for 8 in the first inns. huh!! 'ONE MAN ARMY...?!' There were other 10 in the squad... Check the Scorecard of the match
Tendulkar excelled even himself with a stunning all-round performance. He took the Australian attack apart to score his 19th one-day international century and went on to 141 off 128 balls, with three sixes and 13 fours, a domineering innings awesome in its certainty of touch. - Cricinfo
It was the final match of the sharjah cup in 1998. With the help of Sachin's 143 knock, India qualified for the final. Tendulkar celebrated his 25th birthday by hitting a second successive century, his 15th in one-day internationals. Hit 134 runs from 131 balls, and chased the target of 272 runs set by Australia. Magic with ball...in the last over South Africa needed 6 and sachin gave only 3.

"There have been lots of one-dayers that have been quite memorable. Like the Hero Cup semi-final against South Africa in 1993 when I bowled the last over. That's very strong in my memory. Then there were matches in Sharjah and the World Cup (2003) match against Pakistan. There have been quite a few like this and it's been a wonderful experience." -Sachin said to cricinfo.
5. India vs Australia, Pepsi Cup 1998, April 1 at Kochi, Kerala
The first International match in the Kochi stadium. Sachin took 5 wickets for 32 runs from 10 overs in Australian Innings.
M. Bevan, S. Waugh, D. Lehman, T. Moody, D. Martyn...
very small wickets...?
Was that a match winning effort...?

6. India vs Pakistan, First ODI April 02, 2005 at Kochi, Kerala
I saw the match at the stadium. we all were feared about defeat because it is a batsmen's paradise and india had only 288. avg score in kochi is 306. and sachin got 5 wickets again in that ground. wickets of afridi, inzamam, mhd hafeez again small wickets...?
small contribution?!
Fact about Javaharlal Nehru International stadium at Ernakulam,Kerala (KOCHI): A match without the presence of sachin results in about 25,000 empty seats.
(Sachin played here against AUS,SA,PAK and again AUS) Check the score card of the match

7. World cup 2003 match vs Pakistan
This was a match Tendulkar said he was compelled to live a year in advance. Everywhere he went, people reminded him about the 1st of March, the fixture against Pakistan. Consequently he did not sleep properly for 12 nights leading up.
India had never successfully chased more than 222 in a World Cup match before Saturday. But gritting his teeth through a shooting pain in his left leg, the world's best batsman scored a scintillating 98, as India chased down a victory target of 274 with majestic ease in 45.4 overs. Sachin Tendulkar was the match-winner once more as India sailed through to the Super Sixes. - cricinfo Check the score card of the match Check the youtube video
9. CB Series First of three finals vs Australia, Sydney
Going into the first final of the CB Series, Tendulkar has not achieved many things: an ODI century in Australia, a century in 37 innings, a chase-winning century since 2001, a century in any chase since March 2004. In a 235-minute masterclass, he washes it all away, scoring 117 off 120 balls and leading India to the 240-run target on a difficult wicket just about solo. He dominates in the initial overs, shepherds the tentative middle order, and stays unbeaten to see the side home.
Nobody does solos better than Sachin Tendulkar, nor, perhaps, has anyone endured as much heartbreak during those solos. It was India of the 90s all over again: Tendulkar almost chased 351 on his own but, with the target in sight, he got out and the rest choked, falling short by three runs with two balls still to go. In Chennai in 1998-99, Tendulkar, having played an innings as incredible as this, left the last three wickets 17 to get; tonight he left them 19 off 17. -cricinfo
sachin didnt get support from his team mates. only Suresh Raina helped sachin a bit with his half century.
India lost the match! So he is not a matchwinner...! right? LOL!
11. Third ODI vs Newzealand, Played at AMI Stadium, Christchurch
An Unbeaten 163 runs from 133 in the first innings. India scored 392 in 50 overs. In the fives overs before Sachin Tendulkar had to retire hurt, he had scored 34 runs. India were in the 45th over of their innings and had Tendulkar batted on there was every chance he would have become the first double-centurion in ODI cricket. He needed 37 more at that point and if physically possible, Tendulkar would have tried his best.
A last word on the quality of the knock should go the captain who was at the receiving end. "I can hardly remember a shot that didn't come out of the middle," McCullum said. "There were times as well that he played with half a blade and hit in areas that he precisely wanted to. I don't think I have seen too many better innings, in any form of the game." - NZ captain McCullum Said.
12. Second Oneday internation vs S.Africa feb. 24, 2010 at Gwalior
Nothing more to say... Sachin became the only batsman in the history of Oneday Internations to hit a double century! 200* from 147 balls.
Tendulkar's innings was a perfect lesson in pacing an innings. He got into his groove almost from the start - the most dot balls he played in a row was four, at the very beginning of his innings, when he didn't score from Dale Steyn's first over. Records in that match
1) 46th ODI hundred
2) Highest ODI score
3) First double century in the 40 year history of one day internationals
4) Maximum number of boundaries in a single innings
5) Fastest double century in any international match
6) Maximum number of 150 plus scores
7) Maximum runs scored by a batsman against South Africa
8) Maximum number of centuries scored against South Africa
